A $2 billion SiC chip manufacturing facility to be set up in India.
Interchip Semiconductors, in partnership with Japans’s YITOA Aurora Micro Technology Co. LTD. Has signed an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish India’s first private semiconductor manufacturing facility. The Rs 14,000 crore project is a step in India’s push toward self-reliance in high-tech manufacturing.
The new facility to be set up at the Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub in Kurnool, will focus on the production of Silicon Carbide (SiC) chips. the advanced chips are critical to energy-efficient technologies, including electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. Initially, the plant will have a production capacity of 10,000 wafers per month, with plans to ramp up to 50,000 wafers per month within two to three years.
